Scholarship for Students with Disabilities

Introduction

The Office of Disability Services is excited to announce our first scholarship opportunity for students with disabilities. This year, two scholarships will be awarded for $500 each. One scholarship will be given to a student who has a physical disability and one to a student who has a learning disability. Eligible students must self-identify their disability with the Office of Disability Services and be registered for classes during the Spring 2019 semester. A committee will review all applications, and two scholarships will be awarded in early April 2019. Applicants should submit an application form along with an essay (250 words or less) answering the following question:

  • What have been some of your struggles since being diagnosed with a disability?

We are excited to be able to give back to the students we work with every day.

  • This scholarship will benefit the student by allowing them to study at a university, which wouldn’t have been possible without it.
  • This scholarship will benefit the university by attracting more students and increasing diversity on campus, which will help make it more diverse!
  • This scholarship will benefit the student’s family because they can rest easy knowing their child is getting an education that will prepare them for a successful future career in whatever field they choose.
  • This scholarship will benefit the student’s community by making it easier for them to get an education that fits their needs; this makes it easier for people with disabilities who live in remote areas where there aren’t any accessible colleges nearby to access higher education opportunities; like never before!

Conclusion

We are excited to be able to give back to the students we work with every day and even more excited that we’re starting with two awards this year. We look forward to continuing this program in the future, so please stay tuned for more information about next year’s scholarship opportunities!
